Dover and Canterbury, England

We took a hovercraft into Dover from Calais. I had no idea how close it was. You can easier see the other side on a fairly clear day. The first day we just hung out. The next we started out sight-seeing.

In the background here you can see the White Cliffs of Dover.

Our hotel was right on the harbor.
Our main sightseeing in Dover consisted of touring Dover Castle.
It was used as a base during World War 2. This is an anti-aircraft gun emplacement... if you look closely, you can see France on the horizon (this was a rather hazey day).
Dover castle has that classic "keep" type look to it... very square.
This cool tunnel at the top of a hill ended in a narrow slit... presumably to discourage invaders by delivering pointy objects upon them from a great height.
Dunno what the purpose of this was, but it was cool.
The view from on top of the castle was magnificent.
The is a cool little medieval church on the grounds of the castle.
Immediately next to it is this ancient light house.
The next we took a trip to Canterbury to see Canterbury Cathedral and (if you ask Elissa) hope to see Orlando Bloom.
I was very impressed with Canterbury Cathedral.
I liked it even better than Notre Dame, and you don't have to pronounce any words funny.
All the pictures you see here were taken by Vickie, so I have to give credit where it is due. There was a photography fee, so we only paid for one person (Vickie) and she carried both cameras. I'm sure that was cheating and we are both going to Hell, but hey... at least we got the pics.
Someone was killed here so they put up this cool alter.
The stained glass windows were almost as magnificent as those in Notre Dame.
The architecture is beautiful...
from any angle...
or any view.
And of course a picture of the front... at the end.

The end - thanks for visiting.
