St. Gallen, Switzerland

Ever since seeing a picture of the library at the St. Gallen Abbey, I've been wanting to go see it.

The abbey itself is worth a visit all on its own.

The twin towers of the cathedral are impressive... but you know what they say... A man with one watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never quite sure...
The stonework on this cathedral is very impressive. But the real treasure lies inside the abbey... the library...

The Stiftsbibliothek is an vast collection of religious books in a library with the most amazing woodwork, frescos and stucco work.

Photography was not allowed in the library... this is a picture of a postcard. :-)

St. Gallen, around the abbey district, had a lot to see.
It turns out that the religeous can't even resist the temptation to display their foutains...

Dispite the Congress to Limit Display of Water Tributes without Rain (CLDWTR) treaty of 1283, St. Gallen stood side-by-side with the rest of Switzerland in great defiance.

For years they tried to deny it. "Oh, no, we have no Watery Magnificence Displays!" (WMDs)...
How deceitful they were.
They do have a church with really cool tilework on the roof, though.
And I'm pretty accepting of clock towers, too.
On my way back to Zug, I stopped by Winterthur. There was a really interesting art museum there, mostly featuring regional painters. Some very satirical ones, too. I enjoy those. They didn't allow photography, though.
I did manage to snoop around and find vestiges of Winterthur's participation in the malicious fountain building trade.
Yup... there was no shortage of examples.
Ok... that does it... I'm outta here.

The end - thanks for visiting.
